A succession record of the forge-regent fused to the Furnace Throne after no replacement arrived to take the pressure heart's load.
The Furnace Throne controls a pressure heart beneath the old Deepforge works. The heart cannot be left unattended. Its regent holds the load directly and transfers it to a successor during a live handover.
The title passes to whoever can work the Throne. This was not symbolic ceremony. The incoming regent took control while the outgoing regent was still holding the heart. Only after the new hand proved stable could the former regent step away. The final shift served as the succession test.
No successor arrived for the last regent. The reason is not preserved in the Throne record. The regent did not stand down because releasing the heart without another hand would allow the pressure system to fail. Heat, time, and continuous load fused the regent into the Throne until body, armor, controls, and office became the Crown of Cinders.
“Without relief” means without a replacement worker. The Crown has never completed a handover and does not recognize that the surrounding district has been abandoned. It continues holding the pressure heart and waiting for a candidate capable of taking the load.
Anyone reaching the Furnace is treated as that candidate. The Crown does not fight them as an intruder. It gives them the same succession trial it survived. By its own procedure, this is fair and generous. The procedure does not ask whether the person wants the office or understands the test.
Shiftbreaker Vent releases the Throne's strongest pressure lane after a clear warning. Hammerfall Judgment fixes an impact at the candidate's recorded position and throws survivors outward. Twin Crucible Spill opens two furnace lanes while leaving the center route clear.
Pressure Crown vents a ring around the regent while keeping the space at the Throne safe. Midway through the trial, two hardened forge attendants enter as the Relief Crew. They support the test but do not take the regent's load. During Last Shift, the Crown attacks with increasing urgency while continuing to warn each pressure action.
Defeating the Crown proves that the party survived its test. It does not automatically transfer the office, explain how to operate the pressure heart, or create a valid handover. Those questions require a living guild decision. The wider Deepforge Moons remain inhabited, and their workers must decide whether the old succession can be completed, replaced, or ended safely.
