The sealed pressure works reached by the expedition are one abandoned district within the inhabited Deepforge Moons. Active settlements, guild halls, pastures, and pressure works continue elsewhere. The workers left this district. Its work orders remained active.

The surviving records do not identify one final disaster. They show closures, withdrawals, incomplete inspections, and equipment transferred out over several shifts. Later entries refer to earlier decisions that are no longer included. By the last surviving roster, no full crew remained inside the sealed routes.

Emergency systems continued because nobody entered an instruction to stop them. Ventilation answered its old schedule. Pressure doors sealed sections that no longer held workers. Ore rails moved empty carriers between loading points. Stabilization machinery treated every new crack, obstruction, and unexpected body as a problem inside an active industrial site.

The machines do not all perform the same work. Slag Rakers clear hot waste from routes. Railhook Haulers move loads and anything caught with them. Pressure Cantors grow into vent lines and sound when those lines fill. Cable Constrictors hold and tension runs that once depended on regular inspection. Equipment that remains useful in a staffed district becomes dangerous when nobody is present to coordinate it.

Animals also moved into the unused routes. Vent boars root around heat channels. Basalt rams cross cooled outer cuts. Heat-adapted predators and scavengers use shafts that once carried crews. Their presence did not cause the abandonment, but it makes recovery harder now.

Deepforge guilds have not forgotten the district. They maintain seals, record pressure changes from outside, and dispute whether reclaiming the works would cost more lives than the machinery is worth. A closed industrial route is not an empty homeland, and refusing to reopen it is not proof that Korr society failed.

The oldest active systems still answer the first kiln at the district's center. When the Kilnheart Colossus issues a stabilization call, work machines respond as if a crew has requested support. They do not know that the shift ended. Their records show active duties, incomplete tasks, and no authorized relief.

The machines are not choosing to remain loyal. They are following the only orders they have. They are also not simply broken; most continue their assigned work with dangerous accuracy. Read the schedule, identify which systems still depend on it, and never assume an abandoned machine is inactive.
