The Kilnheart Colossus stands at the center of the abandoned pressure district. Its core is the first kiln lit when the Deepforge Moons were opened for work. Guild records state that the fire has never gone out.

The original kiln can still be seen at a few exposed seams. Stone, slag, and iron have accumulated around it for so long that the surrounding body now moves as one structure. The heat becomes dangerous at roughly thirty paces. Anyone approaching closer needs proper protection and a route that does not cross an active exhaust lane.

Korr guilds do not agree on what the Colossus is. Some records classify it as an industrial machine altered by centuries of mineral growth. Others describe a living organism that settled around a stable heat source. A smaller group treats the kiln itself as the living subject and the outer body as material it learned to use. No inspection has settled the question.

The Colossus responds to intrusion as worksite instability. Its main arm strikes with enough force to move heavy equipment under Deepforge gravity. Before releasing heat, it marks a long lane across the floor. The warning provides time to clear the route, but the fire continues burning anyone caught inside it.

When damaged, the Colossus closes armor shutters and pressure seals around its core. It also sends a stabilization call through the old district. Nearby work machines answer and enter the chamber. During its final cycle, the Colossus opens crossed heat lanes and runs them together as if clearing several hazards from the floor at once.

These actions do not establish whether it understands the people fighting it. They match procedures used to protect a kiln, contain pressure failure, and restore a dangerous work area. The Colossus may be defending itself, defending the first fire, or completing a maintenance response. Current evidence supports all three readings.

The district was abandoned around the Colossus. The wider Deepforge Moons were not. Working guilds still name the first shift, maintain family tools, and keep active kilns elsewhere. What they agree on is limited: the Kilnheart carries the same fire lit during the first shift. Questions about whether that fire can be separated from the Colossus usually end the conversation.
